Yugioh Clix Mantis Men

As much as I hate giving away a secret, the Yugioh Clix line has a number of decent sculpts that you can get very, very cheaply. This guy over on the right, a Kallalakakallakakaakalllakakalalakkkkakakannanan warrior (or something like that) is an awesome mantis figure for conversions.

First, he looks nice as is. Second his head and arms are separate cast, so they come off just like pulling the ... well, you get the idea. Third, the legs are "open", so there is a nice line for an easy and clean X-Acto cut to separate them.

So with some simple repositioning and rebasing, a handful of them makes a nice insectoid threat for scifi, pulp, and fantasy settings.

These guys appear to be afraid of Bob Murch's Dangerous Dames back there. Good call on their part.

I like the heads. They will work well on lots of other things. Here are a few on some Star Wars Mon Calamari bodies. I have a lot of those bodies around because I like the heads.

Of course, that left me with a number of bodies. After a little nip and tuck, a pair became these eldrich horrors. The tentacles come from a HeroClix Brainiac 13 from the original set (which you can probably get very cheap nowadays). I sculpted the heads.

And the three-legged ones above left me with an empty torso. I'm always looking for a new varaint to put in with my Green Men of Mars. Nice helmet, that! :)

Of course, there still remains the question of what did I do with those Mon Calamari heads. Well, they went on some other YuguClix... Tune in next week. Same fish-time. Same fish-channel.
